Susan Black’s retail art gallery in Aurora, Oregon, focuses on original watercolor paintings by local artists.
Open since July 2016, the Black Star Watercolor Gallery showcases original watercolor paintings by local artists. My gallery is located in the heart of historic and charming Aurora, Oregon, at 21680 Main Street NE. In addition to paintings, I also sell secondhand watercolor instruction and other art books, local pottery, correspondence cards, journals and gifts. Special events take place frequently, and all are welcome to drop in and work on their own creative projects.
A watercolorist myself and now a gallery owner, I feel very strongly about offering only original, unique, one-of-a-kind watercolor paintings, not giclees or any other kind of copy. Knowing that the hand of the artist has directly touched the work available at Black Star Watercolor, creates an immediacy and intimacy that is unmatched.
Black Star Watercolor also supports Quilts for Empowerment (QFE), the not-for-profit founded by my friend Mary Ann McCammon of Sherwood, Oregon, to teach sewing, quilting and other skills to survivors of obstetric fistula and sexual assault survivors in Kenya. QFE story quilts and table linens – each one as original, unique and beautiful as a Black Star Watercolor painting! -- are available at the gallery, with 100% of the sales price (no gallery commission) going directly to the women in the program.
